本属は東洋区を中心に１３種が知られるが、日本からは本種のみが知られる。本州ではHeliothrips haemorrhoidalis クロトンアザミウマと共に最も普通に見られるアミメアザミウマ亜科である。様々な植物に見られるが、本種の種小名の元となったアオキからはあまり採れないようである。海外では中国から記録されている。また、オスは日本では未知だが、最近中国から記録された。

This genus includes 13 species which are mainly distributed the Oriental region, and only A. aucubae is distributed in Japan. This species is one of the most common panchaetothripine species together with Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis in Honshu. It occurs on many kinds of plants but seems to be rarely collected from Aucuba japonica. A. aucubae is also known from China and the male is not known in Japan but was recently recorded in China.
